Every American knows that the English colonies in North America functioned under an English legal system and “constitutional” arrangement. It was based on the historic, legal development of Anglo-Saxon England. After the Norman conquest (1066), subsequent alterations produced the legal framework in use in the empire.
The colonial revolt and subsequently victorious American nation was supervised by three national governmental systems. …
Oh yes, during the Revolution, traitors to the American cause fled and/or were punished by local rules that reflected the British system. The persons who led a “secession” movement in 1860-61 (not recognized in the U.S. or confederate constitutions) knew their entire operation was treasonous. Efforts to change the language regarding the entire historic event have no merit.
