Delaware County commissioners said Monday they will hold a Tuesday, Sept. 20 session at 10 a.m. on the 1550 WDLR stage during the Delaware County Fair.

Jane Hawes, communications manager, said commissioners have a tradition of holding a session at the fair each year. “The Delaware County Fair is, without question, a significant part of county history,” she said in an email. “Conducting the commissioners’ session there at the Fairgrounds honors this.”

Hawes said commissioners moved their regular Monday, Sept. 19 session to Tuesday because commissioners thought it important that all three members could participate in the tradition. “One of the commissioners had a schedule conflict on Monday,” she said.

Commissioners also canceled the session planned for Thursday Sept. 22 at 9:30 a.m.

According to Hawes, traditional commissioners do not hold a session on the Thursday of the fair because it is considered a holiday in the county.

In other business Rob Riley, chief deputy engineer, the county engineer’s office approached the commissioners to recommend sending a study to the Ohio Department of Transportation to reduce speed limits on Mills Road and Berlin Road.

According to Riley, the engineer’s office conduct regular assessments of the county roads using the Ohio Department of Transportation’s criteria to assess the road’s width, minimal shoulder, accidents occurred on the road and development.

“Both roads have narrow shoulders,” he said.

Riley said the areas affected by the reduction are Mills Road between County Line and State Route 257 and Berlin Road between Braumiller Road and Old State Road. “Each road warrants a speed limit of 45 (miles-per-hour),” he said. “Currently they have a speed limit of 55 (miles-per-hour) un-posted.”

He said that the study is sent to ODOT for their approval in reducing the speed limit before the county engineer’s office can post speed limit signs.

“We would expect the chances are good in getting both reduced,” Riley said.
