Frontier to lay off nearly 250 workers

Frontier Communications Corp. will consolidate its call center in Marion in January.

The Norwalk, Conn.-based internet service provider will layoff 247 employees between Jan. 3 and Jan 10. as part of significant restructuring and reorganization nationwide, according to a letter to Ohio Department of Job & Family Services.

The Marion facility served as residential and business call center, customer relations and sales support and training.

Frontier operates in 29 states and employed about 30,400 employees in the U.S. The company announced the restructuring on Tuesday with its third quarter results, which included a net loss of $80 million.

The restructuring would enhance focus on commercial and consumer business units.
