A 19-year-old man entered a guilty plea to four burglary charges Tuesday in Delaware County Common Pleas Court. He admitted to stealing items from homes in Powell in July.
Edward Mark Green, of Powell, appeared in court Tuesday morning for a change of plea hearing after he and his attorney, Jeffrey Uhrich, reached a plea agreement with prosecutors.
Before the change of plea hearing was scheduled, Green was set to stand trial Tuesday and face three counts of burglary, which are second-degree felonies; four counts of theft (three are fifth-degree felonies and one charge is a first-degree misdemeanor); two counts of receiving stolen property, fifth-degree felonies; and a charge of identity fraud, a fifth-degree felony.
Assistant Delaware County Prosecutor Jahan Karamali detailed the agreement at the hearing and said that Green would be entering a guilty plea to three counts of burglary, one second degree felony and two third-degree felonies and one count of attempted burglary, a fourth-degree felony.
The remaining charges would be dismissed, according the agreement.
Delaware County Common Pleas Judge David Gormley presided over the hearing and asked Green what he did to have the charges brought against him.
Green said that in July he and a 17-year-old friend had been smoking marijuana and driving around Powell when his friend decided to cut screens on windows of homes and go inside to steal purses and other items.
Powell police reported in July that Green and his friend were responsible for a July 7 break-in on Ascott Court, a pair of break-ins on July 10 at Coldwater Drive, and Gediz Drive. Police say the break-ins occurred overnight while residents slept.
Karamali said that Green was also found inside burglarized homes.
Gormley accepted Green’s plea and dismissed the remaining charges. Gormley told Green that he faces two to eight years for the second degree felony, nine to 36 months in prison for the third-degree felony and up to 18 months in prison for the fourth-degree felony.
Gormley scheduled a sentencing hearing for Jan. 27 at 8:30 a.m. and ordered a pre-sentence report.
Green was out on bond Tuesday awaiting his sentencing hearing. His friend has reportedly been adjudicated in Delaware County Juvenile Court.
