Pacers clip Panthers with Yoakum buzzer-beater

It wasn’t always pretty, but the final shot was a welcomed sight for Hayes fans as Will Yoakum hit a runner in the lane as time expired to lift the Delaware Hayes boys basketball team to a thrilling 41-39 win over visiting Hilliard Darby Friday night.

Yoakum, who finished with 14 points, hit both ends of a 1-and-1 to tie the game with 32 seconds left. After a stop, Hayes called a timeout and, with just one second left, Sam Midura executed a perfect inbound pass from mid court to set up the game-winner. Yoakum caught the pass in stride and laid it in at the buzzer.

“I thought Darby played great … the best we have seen them,” Hayes coach Jordan Blackburn said. “They have not been a good shooting team all year so we were really packing it in the paint. They hit eight threes and defended us well, so credit them, but I was proud of our boys for finding a way to win on a night we were not happy with how we played.”

The Pacers struggled from deep, missing all 10 of their three-pointers, but finished a perfect 9-for-9 at the charity stripe.
