Remember 2017 is the last year to get your fertilizer certification. If you apply a fertilizer with a guaranteed analysis on more than 50 acres of agriculture grown crops primarily for sale, a certification is needed by Sept. 30, 2017.
Fertilizer that is run through the planter and application of lime and manure are exempt and if a custom applicator makes your fertilizer applications for you, you do not need to be certified. OSU Extension State specialist Greg Labarge will be covering nitrogen, phosphorus, and soil testing.
We will be offering a fertilizer certification hosted by Evolution Ag from1:30 to 4:30 on February 22. Call the Delaware County Extension Office at 740.833-2030 or contact Evolution Ag. to register. There is no cost for this training.
Monthly Ag Breakfast
On Feb. 24 we will have the second in a series of our monthly Ag Breakfasts hosted by OSU Extension and sponsored by the Madison County Farm Bureau. The topic will be Soybean Weed Update (Enlist Duo/Extend) By Mark Loux, OSU Extension.

Join us for the 4th annual Agronomy Workshop & Expo to hear the latest from researchers on how you can achieve the best yields while improving your soils’ health. The workshop is set for Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017 at All Occasions Catering – Waldo from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm.

Topics and speakers include:
• Rodney Rulon of Rulon Enterprises, a family farm located in Arcadia, Indiana, is a graduate of Purdue University. Mr. Rulon will discuss the development of the farm’s production system focused on maximum economic yield as well as the economic value of conservation practices.
• Successful Management Strategies for No-till will be the focus of Bill Haddad’s presentation. Mr. Haddad, a graduate of the University of Rhode Island and well-known around Ohio as “No-till Bill”, recently retired from a long career with Chevron Chemical and Valent USA. He works as an independent consultant.
• Dr. Andy Michel, Associate Professor with The Ohio State University’s Department of Entomology, will cover Insect Issues in Agronomic Crops for 2017. Dr. Michel has degrees from Purdue University and University of Notre Dame.
• Steve Baker, a graduate of West Virginia University, is the State Soil Scientist for Ohio’s Natural Resources Conservation Service. Mr. Baker’s talk will focus on Properties of Ohio Soils and Their Response to Soil Health Practices.
