Pacers score early and often in win over Pleasant


The Hayes softball team scored in all five trips to the plate en route to a lopsided 13-2, five-inning win over visiting Pleasant Wednesday in Delaware.

The Pacers set the tone with a two-run first inning before adding two more in the second, four in the third, four more in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Alyssa Durbin sparked the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 performance. She also drove in a pair of runs.

Other standouts included Ally James, who had a team-best three RBI; Chloe Barton, who had two hits, two runs and two RBI; and the trio of Mallory Stonebraker, Laiha Slayton and Alex Armstrong, who had two hits apiece.

Olentangy 5, Liberty 2

Payton Cox allowed just two unearned runs and Sydney Hall knocked in a pair to lead the Braves to a league win over the rival Patriots Wednesday in Lewis Center.

Olentangy broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run third to grab control.

Morgan Cox, Sydney Wagner, Kristen Kracht and Emma Spinner had two hits apiece in the win.

Taylor Karlo led Liberty with three hits and two RBI.

Groveport 11, Big Walnut 2

Alex Thomas hit a two-run homer in the first to give the Golden Eagles an early lead, but the visiting Cruisers scored 11 unanswered to close out the game Wednesday in Sunbury.

Big Walnut’s Jojo Lucas and Alexyss Bullock added two hits apiece while Jessie Rock finished with two homers and four RBI to lead Groveport.

Big Walnut scored three runs in the sixth to notch a 4-3, come-for-behind win over visiting Franklin Heights Wednesday in Sunbury.

Connor Gerren led the Golden Eagles with three hits while Parker Imertreijs knocked in a pair of runs.

Henry von Hollen picked up the complete-game win on the mound, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits while striking out five.

Hayes 8, Jonathan Alder 4

Dominic Byers double, tripled and drove in three runs to help the Pacers double up the host Pioneers Wednesday in Plain City.

After both teams scored three in the first inning, Hayes outscored Alder 5-1 the rest of the way to cement the win.

Ben Yoakum, Sam Midura and Zach Price backed Byers with two hits apiece. Midura added three runs and an RBI while Price knocked in two in the win.

Jason Cross picked up the win on the mound, allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits while striking out three in five innings of work.

Westerville Central 6, Liberty 5, 9 inn.

The Patriots scored a pair of runs in the sixth and three in the seventh, but the Warhawks scored four times in the bottom of the seventh before adding one in the ninth to rally for a walk-off win Wednesday in Westerville.

Craig Lutwen drove in two while Mitch Milheim and Brennan Rowe had two hits apiece.

Galion 6, Buckeye Valley 5

The Barons owned a 5-2 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh, but two errors and three Tiger hits cost them a win Wednesday in Galion.

Hayden Owens finished a perfect 4-for-4 in the setback while Zach Schneider had three hits and an RBI. Landon Alexander and Branson Kurtz had two hits each for BV.

Ben Spaulding tossed six strong innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out three. Owens pitched the seventh and took the loss.


Trent Slavik scored four times and Andy Nero found the back of the net three times and assisted on two others to lead Buckeye Valley to a 13-9 win over Bexley Wednesday night.

Nathan Heiser was the team’s top facilitator, finishing with five assists and a pair of goals, while Carson James also had two goals in the win.

Nick Gerold anchored the defense with three saves.

Buckeye Valley swept the doubles courts and took one of three singles matches en route to a solid 3-2 non-league win over Hilliard Darby Wednesday afternoon.

BV winners included Nick Roden and Ben Swanger, who teamed up to notch a 6-1, 6-4 win at first doubles; the duo of Mitchell Garnett and Jake Kehoe, who battled from behind to earn a 4-6, 7-5, 6-0 win at second doubles; and Erik Naslund, who won 6-0, 6-4 at third singles.

Hayes 5, Marysville 0

Hayes picked up a trio of three-set wins to sweep away Marysville Wednesday afternoon.

Pacer winners included Kyle Klumpp (6-1, 6-0 at first singles), Sam Bonofiglio (6-1, 3-6, 6-2 at second singles), Ben Teitelbaum (4-6, 6-4, 1-0 at third singles), Ryan Williams and Eric Ullom (6-3, 4-6, 1-0 at first doubles) and Eric Puthoff and Danny Brennan (6-1, 6-1 at second doubles).
