Emotion doesn’t trump rule of law

OWU President Rock Jones voiced his displeasure and concern about deferred action for childhood arrivals as reported by The Delaware Gazette in the Sept. 7, 2017 edition.

Perhaps Mr. Jones needs to better understand that the 2012 DACA program by presidential decree was not in the authority of a president to issue. That legal authority rests only with Congress.

In spite of many unconstitutional actions in the past, just because you feel some emotional attachment to a position, that still does not override the rule of law and the U.S. Constitution of separation of powers.

President Trump is absolutely on firm Constitutional grounds to send the matter back to Congress. The real travesty here is that the edict was allowed to go through in the first place. Perhaps Mr. Jones missed that little bothersome responsibility of Congress to act in the matter as opposed to an executive decree.

Yes, the rule of constitutional law sometimes overrides even university presidents’ views.
