Sprankle, Bower lead Patriots to OCC crown

The Olentangy Liberty girls cross country team had four runners finish in the top 10 en route to winning the team title at Saturday’s OCC-Buckeye Championship in Hilliard.

Gracie Sprankle and Emma Bower, a junior and senior, respectively, led the charge. Sprankle won the individual title with an effort of 17:53.95 while Bower finished second in 18:24.69.

Linnea Kunesh and Audrey Piero were also solid for the Patriots, finishing eighth and 10th in respective times of 19:31.25 and 19:42.91.

Olentangy Orange, led by Allison Guagenti’s third-place performance (18:37.69), finished second in the final team standings. Lindsay Ott and Zoe Bond were solid, too. Ott finished fifth overall (19:22.96) and Bond closed seventh (19:28.40).

Olentangy was also in action, finishing third. The Braves were boosted by Lex Brookshire’s ninth-place effort (19:38.53).

MOAC Championship

Buckeye Valley, led by Ashley Beatty and Bailey Kreft’s top-six showings, won its fourth league title and second in as many years at Saturday’s MOAC Championship at Amman’s Reservoir in Galion.

Beatty and Kreft, both freshmen, nabbed first team All-MOAC honors by finishing third and sixth in respective times of 20:25.1 and 20:31.8.

Other top Baron contributors included Chayse Arnhold (eighth in 20:40.5), Jia Radloff (10th in 21:14.5), Madelyn Zindars (11th in 21:21.8), Lane Graham (12th in 21:23.4) and Susie York (13th in 21:23.9).

Buckeye Valley won with 35 points while Ontario finished second with 41 and North Union smoothed out the top three with 78.

OCC-Capital Championship

Colbi Borland won the individual title while two other Golden Eagles finished in the top 10 to lead Big Walnut to a runner-up finish at the OCC-Capital Championship Saturday in Lancaster.

Borland won her crown thanks to an effort of 20:26.75. Hannah Wilson was also solid, finishing fifth in 21:20.26 while Ruthann Armbrust finished eighth in 21:55.88.

OCC-Cardinal Championship

Delaware Hayes finished seventh at Saturday’s OCC meet in Hilliard, with a couple runners finishing in the top 25.

Freshman Lauren English crossed the line 15th (20:45.23) while senior Grace Fowler closed 22nd overall (21:26.22).
