William Street Church is commemorating its 200th year as a congregation in 2018, and the entire community is invited to help the local United Methodist church kick off its celebration.

A free concert by the award-winning Brass Band of the Western Reserve (BBWR), from northeast Ohio, will begin this year-long celebration. William Street UMC will host this event on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. at Hayes High School Auditorium.

Under the direction of Keith Wilkinson, a member of William Street Church, this band has been performing since 1997 at prestigious concert venues including The Amphitheater, Chautauqua Institution, Hoover Auditorium, Lakeside and Severance Hall, Cleveland. BBWR enjoys a reputation for performing a wide variety of music ranging from quiet and delicate to strong and powerful.

The church, at 28 West William St., has adopted a logo for its bicentennial year. The logo includes the theme “200 Years Sharing God’s Love With All.”

“William Street United Methodist Church is excited to be celebrating 200 years serving God and God’s people, in Delaware and beyond,” said Pastor Julie Carmean, who has led the congregation since 2008. “And, we are delighted to kick off our birthday party with Keith and the BBWR. In keeping with our mission and practice, all are invited and welcome. This free concert is one way of expressing our gratitude to the Delaware community for its years of support. Throughout our bicentennial we will be gratefully celebrating what God has done, is doing, and will do through the partnership of church and community.”
