First Commonwealth Bank breaks ground on new location

Four years after Delaware City Council approved a final development plan for the construction of up to three buildings on separate lots in front of the former Buehler’s grocery store on the city’s west side, Jackson Real Estate and Development broke ground recently on the second building — a 6,700-square-foot retail center.

The first building constructed as part of the development was completed in 2014 and houses Panera Bread.

“We are pleased to provide additional retail space in the City of Delaware,” said Randall Jackson, president of Jackson Real Estate & Development. “We hope this project spurs additional growth in the city.”

According to a press release from First Commonwealth Bank, the financial institution, which has several locations in Delaware, will move its west side location from the former Buehler’s building to the new retail center.

“We are excited to have a new home to serve our customers on the northwest side of Delaware,” said Amy Pinnick, market leader for First Commonwealth Bank. “We look forward to having an updated location with increased visibility.”

Ferguson Construction expects to have the retail facility completed by early spring 2018, the release states.

City Community Affairs Coordinator Lee Yoakum said once the retail center is complete, it could be shared by as many as four tenants.

With the bank already on board, Yoakum added, the city was informed by Jackson that a dentist’s office has expressed interest in becoming the retail center’s second tenant.

“It’s good to see that different types of businesses continue to see benefits in locating or relocating in the City of Delaware,” Yoakum said. “We’re especially happy that First Commonwealth will continue the banking and financial tradition in that area.”
