Have you met Harvey?

A giant six-foot invisible rabbit, yes invisible, will be invading Buckeye Valley High School’s auditorium this weekend.

The high school’s Thespian Troupe #6950 will present Mary Chase’s Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy “Harvey.”

The story is centered around Elwood P. Dowd — played by Peter Som — whose best friend is Harvey, a six-foot tall, invisible rabbit known as a pooka. When Dowd begins to introduce Harvey to the town, his sister, Veta Louise — played by Harlie Rader — and her daughter Myrtle Mae — played by Anika Craft — decide it is time to have their loving brother and uncle committed to a sanitarium.

However, in a strange twist of fate, Veta Louise is committed instead. Once the mistake is realized, a search begins for Elwood and the invisible pooka. But in the end, Veta realizes that she loves her brother and his invisible best friend.

Buckeye Valley’s rendition of “Harvey” is directed by Amy Anderson who has been a professional actor in Central Ohio for about 12 years and has directed the Buckeye Valley cast for the last three years.

Anderson said that it took Mary Chase two years to write “Harvey” and that it was one of the longest-running plays on Broadway. She said this was the second time she has directed the play.

“I fell in love with it the first time and I love it even more now,” she said. “For me, this is a lovely story of our truth being our reality.”

Anderson said the cast has been working hard to get every detail right for the past nine weeks.

“It’s a cast that didn’t have a lot of experience,” she said. “They are outstanding. I’m very proud of them.”

The stage props were all created by the cast and crew, Anderson said.

“It’s all made of styrofoam and cardboard and looks great,” she said.

“Harvey” will be performed at the Buckeye Valley High School auditorium, 901 Coover Road, Delaware, Friday, Nov. 10 and Saturday, Nov. 11 starting at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m.

Tickets may be purchased online at www.showtix4u.com. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $8 for students and senior citizens.
