Commissioners sign off on crane purchase

The Delaware County Regional Sewer District received approval Monday from the county commissioners for the purchase of a crane truck in the amount of $180,875.

“We actually talked to the City of Marysville. They purchased a very similar truck for a little over $200,000 because they had not used the state bid pricing,” said Tiffany Maag, Regional Sewer District deputy director. “We feel the pricing is pretty good for what we’re getting here.”

The vehicle features a Freightliner M2-106 Chassis with Liftmoore 60100DXP-24 Crane and Crane Service Body.

The county sewer district is required to maintain and install pumps for the treatment plant and throughout the district. Maag said the district would need the new crane truck for the construction of the five new pump station projects.

“A lot of those pumps are going to be significantly larger than what we currently have in our system,” she said. “We need a much larger truck to be able to pull those pumps up in the event there is a pump failure.”

Maag said the crane truck gives the district the capability to build stations with submersible pumps versus the dry pit station. She said the dry pit station could cost up to $1 million more in concrete expenses to build.

“It looks like a big dollar amount here, but it does actually allow us to save quite a bit of money with the type of station we are able to build in the system,” she said. “The state bid is really good for this job.”

Maag told commissioners the expenditure is included in the 2017 budget. The crane truck was priced and will be purchased through the State of Ohio’s cooperative government purchasing program.

For the Delaware County Engineer’s Office, commissioners approved a contract of sale and purchase between 701 Home Road, LLC and the board for a project known as del-cr 124-6.45, and a cooperation agreement between the board of commissioners, Berlin Township trustees, and the county engineer for Piatt Road improvements.
