Bishop Palmer to lead worship at William Street UMC

William Street United Methodist Church is commemorating its 200th year as a congregation, and the entire community is invited to the church on Sunday, Oct. 7 to celebrate.

Bishop Gregory V. Palmer will be the guest preacher for the Bicentennial Birthday Celebration. Linda Middelberg, assistant to the Bishop and Capital Area North District Superintendent, will also be attending, along with many other guests. The celebration, which begins at 10:25 a.m., will include a churchwide reception after worship.

Bishop Palmer has served as the Episcopal leader of the Ohio West Area of The United Methodist Church since 2012. In his address at the 2016 General Conference of the United Methodist Church, he urged its members to rise to “a spiritual renewal based on humility, steeped in prayer, and propelled by trust of and obedience to God.”

The church, located at 28 W. William St. in Delaware, has adopted a logo for its bicentennial year. The logo includes the theme “200 Years Sharing God’s Love With All!”

Pastor Julie Carmean, who has led the congregation since 2008 said, “William Street United Methodist Church is excited to be celebrating 200 years serving God and God’s people in Delaware and beyond. And, we are delighted to have Bishop Palmer lead worship on Oct. 7. In keeping with our mission and practice — all are invited and welcome! Throughout our bicentennial, we will be gratefully celebrating what God has done, is doing, and will do through the partnership of church and community!”
