Dawson leads Barons at state showcase

HEBRON — Chloe Dawson earned All-Ohio honors, finishing 20th overall to lead the Buckeye Valley girls cross country team during Saturday’s State Cross Country Championships at National Trail Raceway.

The Barons, competing in their third straight Division II state showcase, finished 15th as a team.

Dawson earned her top-20 showing with a time of 18:55.6. Bailey Kreft, who crossed the line 65th in 19:55.9; and Ashley Beatty, who was 118th in 20:46 smoothed out BV’s top three.

Lexington, which had two runners finish in the top 10, won the team title while Hawken’s Ella Gilson nabbed individual honors with a first-place effort of 17:45.8.

DIVISION I

Big Walnut’s Colbi Borland finished 33rd overall in 18:57.9 to headline Delaware County runners at Saturday’s Division I state championship race at National Trail Raceway.

Olentangy Liberty and Olentangy Orange were there as well, competing as teams, and finished 19th and 20th, respectively.

The Pioneers’ Paige Benecke had the best finish among the two schools, closing 65th in 19:27.1. Orange’s Corinne Hazel was also solid, finishing 110th in 19:54.8.

The Patriots, meanwhile, were led by Linnea Kunesh, Audrey Piero and Allison Westfall. Kunesh finished 116th in 20:00.5, Piero was 125th in 20:09.2 and Westfall closed 130th in 20:12.1.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Olentangy Orange finished 18th as a team and Olentangy Liberty’s Jack Humenay and Olentangy’s Mikey Worboy competed as individuals at Saturday’s Division I state championship race at National Trail Raceway.

Humenay headlined the list of area runners, finishing 23rd among the 186 runners in action with a time of 15:53.5.

The Pioneers were led by Alex Kenish (78th in 16:33.3) and Brant Yocum (105th in 16:46.7).

Worboy, meanwhile, finished 151st in 17:08.9.
