Roundup: Teays Valley outlasts Orange in extras

Olentangy Orange’s Sofia Terlesky led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a game-tying homer to center, but visiting Teays Valley scored on an error in the top of the eighth and hung on from there to notch a 3-2 non-league win Tuesday afternoon in Lewis Center.

The Pioneers (3-4) played from behind from the third inning on, falling into a 2-0 hole thanks to a two-out, two-run double off the bat of Morgan Cantrell.

Anna Wilming got Orange a run closer with a solo home run in the fourth, but the 2-1 spread held until Terlesky’s late bomb.

Jordyn Pelles, Gauri Naik and Carley Phillips all had singles for the Pioneers. Wilming, meanwhile, suffered the setback in the circle, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out 12 and walking just two in eight innings of work.

Hilliard Darby 3, Delaware Hayes 2, 8 inn.

Kaitlyn Patrick singled home the game-winning run with two out in the bottom of the eighth to lead the host Panthers to a walk-off win over the Pacers Tuesday afternoon in Hilliard.

The game was tight throughout. Darby broke the scoring seal with a run in the first before Hayes got the equalizer in the fifth.

The Panthers went back on top in the bottom half only to see the Pacers even things back up in the sixth.

Rylea Gist, Lizzy Gould and Lauren Tompkins had two hits apiece to lead Hayes at the plate.

Bronwynn Leighty took the loss in the circle, allowing just three runs on four hits while striking out nine and walking two in 7.2 innings of action.

BASEBALL

Olentangy Orange scored all the runs it would need in the first two innings, plating a pair in the first and three in the second on the way to a 6-4 non-league win over visiting New Albany Tuesday afternoon in Lewis Center.

After Cole Cahill worked a 1-2-3 first, the Pioneer offense went to work in the bottom half. They loaded the bases without the benefit of a hit before Diego Astacio singled to left to score Tyler Fuller and Charlie Scholvin, who both reached after being hit by pitches.

A three-run second put the Eagles on top, but the lead was brief as Orange answered with a three-run inning of its own. Astacio singled home Cahill to cap the rally and make it a 5-3 game.

Cahill took care of the rest on the mound, allowing four runs on 10 hits en route to the complete-game win. He struck out four and didn’t walk a single batter.

Astacio led the charge at the dish, finishing 2-for-3 with three RBI. Scholvin also had a pair of hits to go with an RBI.

Zach Casey and Dom Fullen had two hits apiece to lead New Albany.

Big Walnut 3, Dublin Coffman 2

Drew Gaskins singled home Cam Gladden with the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh as the host Golden Eagles walked off against the Shamrocks Tuesday afternoon in Sunbury.

After Coffman scored two runs in the second, Big Walnut scored a run in the third before sealing the deal with single tallies in the sixth and seventh.

Gaskins finished 2-for-4 with the RBI while Ethan Clawson and Lorne Anderson also knocked in runs.

Olentangy Liberty 8, Kimberly 0

Brock Amelung had three RBI while Blake Hajjar finished 2-for-2 with two runs and two knocked in to lead the Patriots to their fifth straight win to start the season Tuesday night in Powell.

Liberty broke things open with four runs in the third before adding two in the fourth and two more in the fifth.

Colin Bester took care of the rest, tossing a one-hit shutout. He struck out 13 and walked two.

Delaware Christian 6, Danville 4

Micah Carroll knocked in a game-best three runs to lead the Eagles to a non-league win over host Danville Tuesday afternoon.

Caden Beck and Matt Tranel also knocked in runs while Beck earned the win on the mound, allowing four runs on 12 hits while striking out four and walking one in seven innings of work.
