The Olentangy Liberty girls lacrosse team’s stellar senior class has been leading it to win after win this season. Tuesday night in Powell, against rival Olentangy Orange, the Patriots’ experience put them over the top once again … this time on Senior Night.

Isabelle Pohmer scored a game-best six goals and Lexi Bird added a slew of assists to become the program’s single-season and career assist leader as the Patriots rolled, 20-4.

It took Liberty a bit to get going, but once it did, it ran away with the win.

With a starting lineup loaded with seniors, Makena Harrington found the back of the net to break the scoring seal with 22:35 left in the opening half.

Liberty (14-2) keeper Syd Pechinak saved a free-position shot by Ava Diez on the Pioneers’ first foray into their offensive zone, but Jordan Sullivan scored the equalizer after a Liberty turnover with 16:31 left until the break.

Orange (8-6) made it 2-1 when Sofia Carr scored off a nice find from Kate Beckley, but Liberty didn’t take long to swing the momentum back to its side of the field.

Pioneer keeper Mia Harrington made a save to keep her team in front, and Makena Harrington hit the post a few plays later, but the Patriots found their form after that, scoring six of the next seven goals to take a 7-3 lead into halftime.

After Liberty’s Isabelle Pohmer tied things, 2-2, with 12:43 left in the opening half, she scored again to give her team the lead for good 11 seconds later. Less than a minute after that, Corinna Hilmas scored on a free-position shot to make it a 4-2 game.

Orange sliced its deficit in half when Sullivan scored her second of the night, but Liberty promptly closed the half on a 3-0 spurt — getting goals from Hilmas, Harrington and Megan Benton — to take control.

The Pioneers, looking to make a second-half run, opened the final 25 minutes of action with a quick goal courtesy of Diez, but the Patriots went on to score 13 straight to close out the game.

Madeline Pohmer found the back of the net to make it an 8-4 contest with 23:11 left and, after Isabelle Pohmer scored off a feed from Bird to secure her hat trick, Harrington scored back-to-back goals before Isabelle Pohmer scored three of the next five to all but seal the deal.

Next up, Liberty will host New Albany Thursday while Orange will look to bounce back with a showdown against host Pickerington Central on Friday. Both games are set for 7 p.m. starts.
