Kevin Vaughn has been tabbed by the Liberty Township Board of Trustees to serve as the new township administrator, the township announced in a press release on Monday.

In the role, Vaughn will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the township and will serve as the liaison between the residents, businesses, developers, employees and trustees. The hire is effective May 8.

“I am honored to be selected as Liberty Township’s next township administrator,” said Vaughn in the release. “I am excited to work with the trustees, staff, businesses, and the community as a whole to continue the long-tenured success of the township.”

Vaughn, who holds a certificate from The Ohio State University in sports turf management and is an Ohio certified economic developer, will bring more than three decades of experience working with municipalities, including 10 years as an administrator. Prior to coming to Liberty Township, he served as the township administrator for Berkshire Township (Delaware County) and has also served as the administrator for Clinton Township (Franklin County) and Plain City.

“Every checkbox that the Trustees were looking for in a township administrator was checked with Kevin,” said Board of Trustees Chairman Bryan Newell. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the area of township government with him to Liberty. Liberty Township is and has been one of the fastest-growing communities in Ohio, and we are very excited to have an administrator who has experience working with the Delaware County and Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commissions as well as with economic development. It is critical to our residents that their township administrator is ready, willing, and able to take a leading role in economic development and planning, and the Board of Trustees believes Kevin is that Administrator.”

Liberty Township is currently in the process of building a new fire station, and parks and road services maintenance facility, while construction of the new township hall was recently completed. According to the press release, Vaughn will bring valuable experience to the position in the area of new development having worked on a similar project during his time in Clinton Township.

“Vaughn provides much-needed expertise in this area as he was part of the construction process for a 40,000-square-foot police, fire, and administration facility in Clinton Township,” the release stated. “In addition, Liberty Township is in the process of updating its comprehensive plan and evaluating the township’s Zoning Department in order to provide more efficient and effective services to residents, businesses, builders, and developers. This is an area in which Vaughn is familiar and will be able to quickly oversee as he has an established relationship with regional planning commissions and has improved zoning staffing models and zoning services in his previous positions.”
