Letter: Providing stronger, more stable constitution

0

It does not appear, based on some of the recent letters to the editor, that a lot of people understand the importance of our state constitution.

The constitution is the foundation upon which state government is built. A strong foundation is important for a well-governed state. A constitution, which can be easily changed, does not provide the strong foundation our state needs.

The U.S. Constitution requires a 2/3 majority vote in both houses of Congress and approval by 3/4 of the states to pass amendments. By comparison, the simple majority vote to amend the Ohio Constitution gives us a very weak and unstable constitution.

You wouldn’t knowingly build your house on quicksand, so why would you want a constitution than does not have a solid foundation?

A 60% majority vote to amend the constitution gives us a stronger and more stable constitution. Vote YES on Issue 1!
