Trenton Township unveils new website

SUNBURY — The sole township in the eastern half of Delaware County that didn’t have a website now does.

In September, Trenton Township just east of and outside the city of Sunbury, teased www.trentontwp.com. On Dec. 8, it became available.

The website lets visitors know about the board of trustees/staff, township departments, public notices, contact information, and a history of Trenton dating back to 1808.

The homepage says the township is “governed by the community, for the community” and that it is “committed to public services.”

“When it comes to public services, Trenton Township does not compromise,” the website said. “Emergency medical services are provided by the highly trained and efficient Delaware County EMS, which is funded by Delaware County sales tax. Fire protection is provided by BST&G Fire District, funded by property taxes. We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents, 24/7.”

The site also includes a “Speed Zone Evaluation Sheet” from the Ohio Department of Transportation. It covers County Road 605 from state Route 37 to state Route 3 (3.18 miles), which has a 55 mph speed limit.

According to the Sept. 6 meeting minutes, residents “wanted to check to see if the trustees could reduce the speed on Route 605,” prompting the speed study. Also at that meeting, Chairman Richard Fisher “reported that the Fire Board accepted the donation of land which is across from Camper’s World on Wilson Road.”

At their Oct. 4 meeting, the trustees approved a proposal to prepare a comprehensive plan for the township. They also heard that Weaver Custom Homes is developing 87.6 acres on 15550 Murphy Road.

For the Nov. 1 meeting, the trustees heard from Doug Reidel from the Delaware County Engineer’s Office regarding the engineer’s new offices in the Byxbe Campus at 1610 State Route 521.

The Trenton Township Board of Trustees had its year-end meeting on Dec. 28. Trustees will next meet on Jan. 10 for organizational purposes and a rezoning by Weaver. Trenton Township’s office is at 15495 Hartford Road, Sunbury. For more information, email [email protected] or call 740-965-4816.

Trenton was at one time part of a much larger Sunbury Township, since renamed and divvied up between Delaware and Morrow counties. Currently, Trenton is five square miles or 16,000 acres, bordered by Licking County to the east, and Delaware County townships of Berkshire to the west, Harlem to the south and Porter to the north.
