The Delaware County Engineer’s Office published its 2024-25 Road Construction Guide in February. It lists 19 county and township road projects. This article will look at the major projects slated for 2025.

Going from spring to fall:

• Starting in the spring, there will be three bridges replaced: Fulton Creek Road east of Mooney Road in Thompson Township; Burnt Pond Road over Bokes Creek in Scioto Township; Steamtown Road over Alum Creek in Oxford Township. Roads will be closed for five months for each bridge.

• New bridges will be built over the CSX/NS railroad tracks on two different roads, at a cost of $27 million total. First will be Cheshire Road near Glenross in Berlin Township, requiring a road closure for up to a year starting that spring. The other, going from fall 2025 to spring 2027 on the Home Road extension, connecting to the roundabout on Lewis Center Road by Evans Farm in Orange Township. “No traffic impacts during construction,” the Engineer’s Office said of the latter project.

• As a new $3.3 million peanut-shaped roundabout is being completed at Worthington and Lewis Center roads, another project will take place nearby in Genoa Township. This is a $1.7 million project at the intersection of Lewis Center Road and State Route 3 would run from the summer to fall of 2025. “Widening Lewis Center to 3 lanes from Worthington Road to SR 3, and addition of left and turn lanes on SR 3, plus replacement of a large culvert on Lewis Center Road east of SR 3,” the Construction Guide said. “Project will include preparations for a future traffic signal to be built separately” to accommodate traffic from Genoa Baptist Church/Genoa Academy.

• Also in Genoa Township will be a $3.5 million project on Big Walnut Road at South Old 3C Road and at Tussic Street. The year-long project would start in the summer of 2025. “New single-lane roundabouts at two intersections on Big Walnut Road,” said the description. “Two-month closure at Tussic followed by two-month closure at South Old 3C. Project includes a multi-use path from Old 3C to Tussic and sidewalk on Tussic Street to Totten Springs Drive. New single-lane roundabouts at two intersections on Big Walnut Road. Two-month closure at Tussic followed by two-month closure at South Old 3C. Project includes a multi-use path from Old 3C to Tussic and sidewalk on Tussic Street to Totten Springs Drive.”

• Cheshire Road will get a single-lane roundabout at Golf Course Road in Sunbury. The $1.8 million project would start fall 2025 and go to summer 2026, with a two-month road closure.

• There will be three roundabouts installed along County Line Road in Harlem Township from fall 2025 to summer of 2026 at a total cost of $9 million. These will be at Center Village/Duncan Plains roads, Fancher Road and State Route 37. The Road Construction Guide said this is being done “to improve safety for increased commuter traffic to/from Intel and area businesses. Intersections closed sequentially for about ten weeks.”

Note that these projects are on county and township roads. The Ohio Department of Transportation handles state and U.S. routes, and we’ll look at their Delaware County projects for 2024 in a future article.
