Two weeks ago, we discussed the “Great Debate” between Harlow Shapley, of Mount Wilson Observatory, and Lick Observatory’s Heber Curtis.

Cemeteries home to gravest history

“The cemetery is an open space among the ruins, covered in winter with violets and daisies. It might make one in love with death, to think that one should be buried in so sweet a place.”

Library workshop to help with Halloween makeup

Spooky season is upon us. Now that the temperature has dropped again, I feel right at home with my carved jack-o-lanterns, black cat decorations, and a warm cup of tea as I watch a Halloween classic movie in the evenings that are growing darker earlier each day. Elaborate Trick-or-Treat costumes are a frequent topic of conversation in my household, as well.

Keeping awareness on domestic violence

I recently had the opportunity to reconnect with Stephanie Hunter’s mom. Stephanie was murdered by Brandon Ivy in 2019 after she tried to end their relationship finally once and for all. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think of Stephanie — her mom — and her adult son, too. Our cases become part of the fabric of who we are as human beings — sometimes that fabric is rough, hard to comprehend, and just plain-old heavy. But, there are more moments, like the one I was just able to share with Stephanie’s mom, that remind us that the fabric of who we are as prosecutors is a badge of honor. It truly is an honor to fight for victims, and to work with their families through the worst time in their lives. What Stephanie’s mom endured during the criminal justice process and ultimately the trial, is unfathomable to most people in our county who are blissfully ignorant to the horrors that take place with our neighbors, our co-workers, our children’s friends.

Ensuring first responders get Social Security

Social Security is a bedrock of our middle class. It’s retirement security that Ohioans pay into and earn over a lifetime of work – and should be able to count on to be there for them when they retire.

Growing square watermelons becoming new trend

0

The first time I heard of a “square watermelon” was one night when I had my computer on and noticed a lady hanging watermelons from a high fence, after wrapping them in old T-shirts and dish towels. She had them hanging so as not to lay on the ground. That wasn’t new, but just that quickly, before I had a chance to turn it off, she started talking about “square watermelons”

Astronomers long debated diameter of Milky Way

Important note: On Oct. 14, central Ohio will witness a partial solar eclipse. Eye protection, such as eclipse glasses, will be necessary to view it. Stay tuned next week for further details.

Loog now available at Delaware library

0

The Delaware County District Library has a small catalog of non-traditional items that we circulate to our patrons. If you’ve stopped by our branches, you’ve seen our video game and board game collections, memory card resources and manipulatives, and the student learning workbooks and flashcards. This week, the Delaware Main Library has started testing a new circulating item called a Loog.
