The tenth anniversary of the campus international festival once again promises a taste of multiculturalism

In today’s increasingly interconnected world, it is more important than ever for higher education to embrace multiculturalism. One of Ohio State Marion’s guiding principles is to foster a culture of inclusion…to nurture, respect and celebrate difference. In 2008, Ohio State Marion launched a community-wide event that is a one-day microcosm of this guiding principal.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of one of Ohio State Marion’s most popular community events, A Taste of Culture International Festival, will be held Thursday, April 6, 4:30-8 p.m. in the Alber Student Center.

A Taste of Culture plays host to a multitude of informational booths, live entertainment, food from around the world, henna art tattoos, arts and crafts, and cultural presentations. Bringing together the customs, traditions, color, and flavor of people from diverse ethnicities highlights what organizers feel makes the event successful each year.

Admission is free and open to the public. The festival attracts nearly 800 area residents to campus each year.

Local vendors, restaurateurs, and community members provide samplings of food representative of ethnic cuisines from across the globe. Donations are encouraged for purchase of food tickets to sample the food on hand. Proceeds from donations for food and beverage items benefit minority scholarships at Ohio State Marion.

According to Director of Student Life, Diversity, and Inclusion, Shawn Jackson, A Taste of Culture represents the true international flavor of the campus community, and Jackson expressed that he could not be more pleased enthusiasm for the event continues to attract a broad cross section of students and community members of all ages.

“It’s hard to believe it has been ten years since our first Taste of Culture. We have been blessed to build upon the success of the event each year, attracting new visitors to those that return year after year,” Jackson said.
