MC Fitness & Health, a new 130,000 square-foot health and fitness facility operated by Mount Carmel, celebrated its grand opening last weekend in Lewis Center.
“This is unlike any healthcare or fitness facility in central Ohio, because it blends both in one setting,” said Mount Carmel spokesman Jason Koma.
The 50,000 square-foot fitness center features cardio and strength-training equipment, an indoor walking/jogging track, three swimming pools, full-service locker rooms with showers, whirlpools, saunas and steam rooms, and child care.
“Any community member can come in and tour the facility and join as a member like you would any other fitness center in the area,” said fitness director Sean McCloud.
There are currently 30 classes a week at the fitness center, taught by staff who have degrees and certifications in exercise science, McCloud said.
After an orientation, members will be assessed by staff using a Polar Heart Rate Monitor and Body Age Composition analysis.
“You might be 35, but your body’s age might be more like 42,” McCloud said. “Some people are hesitant to get that information, but we apply that to your fitness regimen, and every four months we provide a reassessment.”
The fitness center also offers a “next steps” eight-week program after patients complete their cardiac rehab or physical therapy, with pre- and post-assessment results sent to the physician.
The health center portion of the facility includes emergency care, cardiac rehabilitation, cardiovascular imaging services, a community health center, imaging (CT, MRI, ultrasound and X-ray) and lab services, an occupational health center, physician offices, rehab services, sports medicine specialists and an all-female women’s health center.
“As the healthcare industry continues to transition away from just treating people after they are already sick, to one that focuses on prevention and keeping people well, Mount Carmel is at the forefront of this change in central Ohio. This facility embodies that leadership,” said Dr. Richard Streck, chief clinical operations officer, at last weekend’s grand opening. “MC Fitness & Health is a demonstration of our commitment to transform the way healthcare is delivered in central Ohio, and we are very proud to provide this healthy living destination to the residents of Delaware County.”
