Some Delaware businesses continue to find selling chocolates and flowers worthwhile for Valentine’s Day.

Shelves at Choffey’s Coffee and Confections, 17 W. Winter St., are decorated, from top to bottom, with boxes, sweets and gifts that are themed for the holiday, which lands on a Tuesday.

The coffee portion closes at 6 p.m., the time when couples venture out to celebrate the holiday and each other, but the owner said they continue to offer the same “warm and cozy” experience for customers.

“We’ll be offering all kinds of chocolate treats, chocolate drinks,” Shelley Myers said.

Choffey’s will provide heart-shaped boxes, some with a velvet finish, from sizes up to 2 pounds. Customers can also bring their own boxes.

“We’re always glad to fill them for you,” Myers said.

And Choffey’s shares some of its sweets with Gibson the Florist, 19 W. Winter St., which has its own niche for the holiday couple-oriented holiday, said Dawn Rittenhouse, owner of the floral shop.

“We’re busy as usual,” she said.

She said they’ve received about 500 orders for more than 2,000 roses over the past week. Some customers prefer to get their flowers delivered early or on the actual day for Valentine’s.

“There’s going to be a lot of last-minute people,” she said. She so far has about 200 orders for Monday and Tuesday.

Rittenhouse said she also offers vases, accessories, gift baskets, jewelry and a small clothing line to meet their clientele’s needs.
