If you’re downtown Saturday checking out the “Blast from the Past” car show, you might also get a chance to appear in a short film.

That’s because Delaware resident Adam Story and his crew will be filming for their entry in the “48 Hour Film Project,” a contest taking place from Friday to Sunday. The event kicks off at the South Campus Gateway in Columbus.

“At 7 p.m. Friday, we pick out a genre — literally, out of a hat,” Story said.

Once they know the type of movie they’ll be making, Story will spend the rest of night writing a script.

On Saturday, producer Story and his all-Delaware Storytime team (a cameraman, cinematographer, editor, and a writer) will be filming throughout the downtown — at the car show, Breakaway Cycling, Staas Brewing Company, What the Tux, J. Gumbo’s, and other locations.

“We’re trying to showcase the city,” he said. “We’re doing this for fun, and we love Delaware.”

He estimated the filming would go on from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., so don’t be surprised if you see the Storytime team around with its lights, cameras, microphone and a film clapper.

“People can stop and say hi,” Story said. “If they want, they can be in the background. They just have to sign a waiver.”

Once the filming is done, Story and his cohorts will edit the film, add the music and turn the film in by 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

The finished product will be no longer than seven minutes in length, but it may take every bit of the 48 hours to get it done.

“It’s very time-consuming. There’s not a lot of sleep,” Story said. “You’re like, why did I do that? And then a week later, you’d do it again.”

Story said the movie will be screened either on Aug. 3 or Aug. 4 at the Gateway Film Center, 1550 N. High St., Columbus. The public will judge the films and pick the winners.

Once the 48 Hour Film Project is over, Story is hoping to have the film shown at the Strand.
