City redesigns its website

The city of Delaware launched a redesigned website on Tuesday, exchanging the old site’s stale brown background for a fresh white background and the new city logo.

“The goal of the new website was to make it more user-friendly,” said economic development specialist Lindsey Kerr during a presentation to City Council on Monday.

While the web address — — is still the same, there are some new features, and the content is shown in a different format. Among the new features is a downtown Delaware parking map using Google maps.

On the home page, there is a “quick help” section with tabs to make a payment; for licenses, permits and forms; for departments and services; and to report a problem or contact city officials. There is also a list of events, news and information from the city’s Facebook page and Twitter feeds, information on the “myDelaware” application and contact information.

From the home page banner, there are six other web pages visitors can link to.

Clicking on the “Residents” link gets visitors to draw down menus for police; fire; parks and natural resources; licenses, permits and forms; water and sewer; planning; city hall; administrative services; airport; refuse, recycling and snow removal; City Council and commissions; legal department; and income tax and finance department.

The “Visitors” page has tabs for facts about Delaware; “things to do” and “places to stay” in and around the city.

The economic development page has tabs for property highlights; business partners; and incentive programs and assets. There are also tabs for locating, growing and starting a business in Delaware. A resources tab also has links to reports and city maps.

A careers page posts job openings for the city, including police and fire departments. A vendors page lists the bids issued by the city.

The last page is on the city’s municipal court, and contains court forms, online records, case lookups and juror information. It can be accessed separately at

There is also a Flickr photostream of local pictures snapped by Delaware residents.
