Hayes’ Grant Godfrey finished Wednesday’s fourth and final OCC-Capital Division match of the season the same way he closed out two of the other three … on top.
The senior, who finished second at the season-opening event before winning medalist honors at each of the last two, posted another medal-winning round Wednesday at Clover Valley. He shot a 73 to finish as the top individual.
Godfrey’s been good, but its because he’s been relaxed. That, and he’s hitting the ball pretty well, too.
“What worked today, and through all the OCC matches, was my ball striking and determination,” Godfrey said. “I’ve been hitting the ball well and have been trying to stay patient and just let it come to me.”
New Albany won the team title with a perfect 28-0 record in league play. The Eagles shot a 313 Wednesday.
Olentangy (22-6) finished second in the league, Orange (18-10) was tied for third, Big Walnut (13-15) finished fifth and Hayes (5-23) was seventh.
The Braves, led by Nick Scott’s 77 and Garrett Varanelli’s 79, shot a combined 317 at Clover Valley. Orange, led by John Mikulec’s 78, fired a 330; and Big Walnut, boosted by Michael Ford’s 84, finished with a 342.
Hayes finished with a combined 373.
OCC-Central Division
Liberty finished fifth at the fourth OCC match of the season, but it was still good enough to earn the team its first league championship since joining the Central Division.
“I’m very happy we won the most competitive division of the OCC,” Patriot coach Ryan Snivley said. “Thank goodness we had a little bit of a cushion going into today or we wouldn’t have won. We played bad today, but we will remember that we won overall.
“It has been a few years … and it feels good to be back on top.”
The Patriots, led by Trey Rath’s 75, finished with a combined 312. Dublin Coffman (306) won by a fifth-man score while Upper Arlington (306), Central Crossing (310) and Thomas Worthington (310) were also in action.
Other Liberty contributors included Kyle Mitchell (76), Cameron McCloskey (79), Jon Flees (82) and Ronnie Foth (85).
