Delaware City Council to discuss courthouse, CIP

0

The new Delaware County Courthouse and the city of Delaware’s capital improvement plan are on the agenda for tonight’s City Council meeting.

A public hearing on the courthouse will take place at 7:30 p.m. involving rezoning, the final development plan and abandoning a right of way.

The rezoning would change two of the four parcels just south of the Delaware County Services Building (the Hayes Building) from one-family residential district to central business district. The abandoning would involve Marshall Court and southeastern portion of the site, on about two acres at 110 N. Sandusky St.

County commissioners are proposing a five-story, 92,145-square-foot building, which includes two levels of garages and three levels of offices. Since 2012, they have received approvals from city commissions for the design and development plan, as well as demolishing the Leffler house and Elks Building.

If approved by council, the Elks Building and Leffler garage would be demolished this fall, and construction on the courthouse would begin in spring 2016.

Council will also have another reading of the 2016-20 five-year capital improvement plan. According to the city’s charter, the plan must be adopted by Oct. 15. Council is scheduled to have a work session on the plan on Oct. 5 before adoption on Oct. 12.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. on the second floor of City Hall, 1 S. Sandusky St.
