The Delaware Fire Department will turn up the heat during Main Street Delaware’s Oct. 2 First Friday event by filling the downtown with firefighting equipment and safety demonstrations, including an obstacle course.

The family-friendly First Friday also will feature a children’s pumpkin-decorating area with pumpkins. For teen-agers, the evening will include an entertainment area hosted by Lighthouse Youth Center of William Street United Methodist Church, as well as a cruise-in with the Vintage Auto Club of Delaware.

Sandusky Street will be closed between Spring Street and Central Avenue for the community First Friday celebration, which is sponsored by Barley Hopsters, 1 N. Sandusky St.

“Everyone loves October’s First Friday,” says Frances Jo Hamilton, Main Street Delaware’s executive director. “Children light up as they explore the firefighting equipment and imagine themselves as the heroes who use it, and families benefit from the fire safety tips. The children’s pumpkin-decorating area and teen entertainment space are icing on the cake.”

In November, Main Street Delaware will celebrate fall with its Nov. 1 First Friday event sponsored by the LSS Delaware County Food Pantry and then welcome Santa Claus on Nov. 22 during the 2015 Christmas parade. Parade entry forms will be available soon on the Main Street Delaware website, www.mainstreetdelaware.com.

Also to celebrate the season, Main Street Delaware’s Dec. 4 First Friday will feature the lighting of the downtown Christmas tree, complete with carolers, horse-drawn wagon rides and Santa’s House. In addition, the community is invited to join the downtown merchants as they hold a holiday open house from noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 5 to help shoppers find the perfect holiday gifts for family, friends and loved ones, she said.
