Parks activities slated

0

Preservation Parks of Delaware County has several activities planned. They include:

• Are you curious about how chickens were kept warm in the winter, in the days before electricity? Come out to Gallant Farm on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m. to see how it’s done. While there, visit the 1930s-style family farm house, and cross the street to walk the trails at neighboring Gallant Woods Preserve. Gallant Farm is at 2150 Buttermilk Hill Road, Delaware. Its regular open hours are Thursday-Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.

• The December meeting of the Delaware County Bird Club will feature information on how to participate in the Delaware Reservoir Christmas bird count. The meeting, which is open to anyone interested in birds, will include refreshments, conversation and the program. The December meeting will be Dec. 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Deer Haven Preserve, 4183 Liberty Road. The Christmas bird count will be held the following Sunday.

• Photographs taken as part of the Preservation Parks photo contest will be on display at the Lodge at Deer Haven Preserve through Jan. 1, and visitors to the park can help choose the winner of the “People’s Choice” award.

All photos entered in the contest will be part of the display, with winners noted in various categories. The photos were taken in various parks during the past year, and portray nature, wildlife and park vistas. Information on how to become a volunteer photographer with the parks also will be available. Deer Haven Preserve is open every day from noon to 5 p.m.

Preservation Parks program guides, covering December through February, are available at all parks, online at www.preservationparks.com, and at the Powell, Sunbury/Big Walnut and Delaware Area chambers of commerce, all county libraries, the Delaware County Convention & Visitors Bureau, and other county locations. Those wishing to have a program guide mailed to them can call 740-524-8600, Ext. 5.
