Last fall the Delaware County District Library main location had a very special visit paid to us by a production company from Los Angeles.

Television producers from Shed Media, a production company that creates non-scripted broadcast series, was going to be in Delaware to film a portion of a new series they were working on for TLC. This is a company that has created such series as “The Real Housewives of New York City” for Bravo, “Basketball Wives” for VH1, and “Who Do You Think You Are?” for TLC.

This particular series they were filming is called “Long Lost Family” and it features the highly emotional and touching stories of people who have suffered a lifetime of separation and are yearning to be reunited with their birth parents or biological families. Hosts Chris Jacobs and Lisa Joyner are both adoptees who have embarked on their own journeys to discover their biological families. Each episode follows the hosts as they investigate the stories of two individuals or families who have longed to resolve their lifelong searches.

The show uses the online genealogy research tool Ancestry.com as their primary means to find the lost family members. As I spoke with the producers, they explained that one of their storylines was bringing them to Delaware and they were looking for a place to film their host, Jacobs, doing his research. We were happy to invite the crew to use the Local History Room in the Delaware main library.

So on Wednesday, Sept. 2, the film crew of about a dozen made their way to Delaware to film a portion of their show. The episode they filmed, titled “I Should’ve Fought Harder to Keep Her,” will air this Sunday, March 27, at 10 p.m. on the TLC network. In that episode, a mother searches for the child that her family never allowed her to hold and forced her to place for adoption. Also, a father seeks to solve an exhaustive search and resolve an intense emotional journey by connecting with the daughter he regrets losing.
