A Delaware man has been arrested and charged with burglary in Union County.

Christopher E. Richardson, 38, of 225 S. Sandusky St., Lot 16, has been charged with burglary, a second-degree felony, and was arraigned Wednesday morning in Marysville Municipal Court where his bail was set at $75,000. He was transported to the Tri-County Regional Jail in Mechanicsburg.

According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was sent to a residence in the 17000 block of Whitestone Road to investigate a burglary Monday evening. Several guns had been stolen from the residence during the day, deputies said.

Deputies recovered three of the stolen guns in the New Dover Estates community outside Marysville, which eventually led deputies to a residence in Delaware where they arrested Richardson, the sheriff’s office said.

The other missing guns and jewelry were also recovered, deputies said.

The sheriff’s office alleges that Richardson approached several different homes on Monday and knocked on doors. “If someone did answer the door, he would make an excuse as to why he was there and move on to another home in an effort to find one with no (one) at home,” the sheriff’s office said in a prepared statement.

Sheriff Malcum Patton encouraged residents in that area to call his office at 937-645-4150 if they had an unknown visitor on Monday. Patton said “this is a common method for burglars and thieves.”
