The Olentangy baseball team scored three times in its final at-bat, the last coming on a walk-off sacrifice fly by Jake McIntyre, to rally past visiting Big Walnut 5-4 in its league opener Tuesday in Lewis Center.
Trailing 4-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Braves (3-5, 1-0 OCC) loaded the bases with no outs before Berto Carselle squeezed home Nate Monastra to make it a one-run game.
A Josh Moeller bunt scored a run to even things up before McIntyre’s fly ended things.
The teams will square off again today, this time in Sunbury.
Liberty 4, Central Crossing 1
Mitch Milheim tossed another gem, limiting visiting Central Crossing to a run on just three hits as Liberty notched a 4-1 win in its league opener Tuesday in Powell.
The Patriots (4-2, 1-0 OCC), took advantage of four Comet errors to jump out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first and another two in the third.
Zach Arnold and Corbin Rapier led Liberty at the plate. Arnold finished with a single and two RBI while Rapier had a double, an RBI and a run scored.
Worthington Kilboure 9, Hayes 5
Hayes plated four runs in the fourth to tighten a big deficit to 9-5 in the bottom of the inning, but neither team managed anything after that as visiting Worthington Kilbourne notched a league win Tuesday in Delaware.
The Wolves scored four runs in the second and five in the fourth to put the Pacers (2-2, 0-1 OCC) into an early 9-1 hole — a hole they couldn’t climb out of.
Ryan Daughenbaugh finished with two of Hayes’ six hits while Noah Watts, Mason W. Davis, Tyler Brown and Mason J. Davis had the others.
Tyler Brown picked up the loss on the mound, allowing eight runs on just two hits. He walked eight in 3.1 innings of work.
Drew George and Colton Hann led Kilbourne (5-0, 1-0 OCC) with two hits apiece.
