The Buckeye Valley boys tennis team won a real nail-biter Monday in Marysville, getting a thrilling three-set win from junior Jake Kehoe and freshman Kyle Baesman at second doubles to slip past the host Monarchs 3-2.
Kehoe and Baesman beat Marysville’s Haden Fluhanty and Cam Ward 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 to seal the deal, sending their team to its eighth win in nine matches.
Other BV winners included Nick Roden, who handled Tony Martin 6-3, 6-4 at second singles; and Ben Swanger, who outlasted Grant Martin 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 at third singles.
Hayes 4, DeSales 1
The Pacers picked up a solid non-league win Monday in Columbus, edging the host Stallions 3-2.
Hayes winners included Eric Ullom at second singles (6-2, 6-2), Ben Teitelbaum at third singles (6-2, 6-1), Logan Byerly and Ryan Williams at first doubles (6-2, 6-0) and the Pacers’ second doubles team (6-0, 6-3).
Big Walnut 5, River Valley 0
The Golden Eagles swept away the host Vikings Monday, getting three-set wins at first singles and second doubles.
Jared Deel picked up the hard-fought win at first singles (6-2, 5-7, 6-3) while Grant Bartlett and Mitchell Cholley rallied to win at second doubles (6-7, 6-2, 6-1).
The other three wins came a little easier. Stephen Pushkin won at second singles (6-1, 6-1), Lane Davis won at third singles (6-0, 6-3) and D.J. Werner and Nick Schulz won at first doubles (6-3, 6-3).
Also: Orange 5, Mount Vernon 0.
