A homeless man lying in the road was apparently alive when he was struck by a car early Monday morning.
The Delaware County Coroner’s Office reports blunt-force trauma was the cause of death for Brandon Page, 36, of Delaware.
Page was struck by a car while lying in the road on West Central Avenue Monday morning.
Delaware County Coroner Dr. Mark Hickman reported Wednesday that, after completing an autopsy, the preliminary cause of death was blunt force trauma. Hickman said the trauma was consistent with being hit by a vehicle.
Hickman said a final cause of death will not be determined until several tests can be completed. Coroner’s office staff said the tests typically take eight to 10 weeks. Hickman said Page had medical issues that may have contributed to the incident.
The incident occurred Monday at around 4:30 a.m. when Amorelle Miller, 53, of 173 Niatross Place, Delaware, was driving her 2014 Kia Sorento east on West Central in the area of Elizabeth Street. Her vehicle struck Page, who was lying in the road, police said.
Police said Page was wearing dark clothing. Miller told police she did not know she had hit a person until she doubled back and discovered what had happened.
Page was pronounced dead when medics and police arrived.
Miller was not injured in the incident, police said.
Police are still investigating how he came to be in the road.
No charges have been filed.
Police said Tuesday that Page was homeless.
