Columbus Zoo gives Schultz students a furry presentation

Columbus Zoo employee Katrina McCauley introduces a group of kindergartners at Schultz Elementary School to Polly Pockets, a red kangaroo. Polly was one of seven animals that visited the students Thursday morning. The students got to meet a serval, a European barn owl, a black-footed penguin, an armadillo and a tortoise.

Fern, the binturong (or bearcat), eats a piece of banana held by Brannon Rapp, a Columbus Zoo employee, during the presentation Thursday. The zoo representative giving the presentation, Tommy Dodge, said Fern smells like popcorn and told the students that binturongs have prehensile tail, meaning they can use it to grasp things.
