The 11th-seeded Buckeye Valley boys soccer team didn’t have any trouble in its Division II district tournament opener, scoring four first-half goals on the way to a convincing 6-2 win over 14th-seeded River Valley Tuesday in Delaware.
BV’s Felipe Scharff broke the scoring seal 14 minutes in and, after River Valley’s Michael Haas evened things up in the 25th minute, the Barons scored three unanswered in a three-minute span to head into the break up 4-1.
Eli Aquino found the back of the net in the 33rd minute, A.J. Nicolosi scored a minute later and Aquino added another goal, this time off a feed from Ben Daily, two minutes after that.
Hass scored his second of the game early in the second half before Daily scored a pair of his own to smooth out the scoring summary.
“We responded well when they drew even and we had a great three-minute stretch late in the half,” Buckeye Valley coach Eric Staley said. “We warned the boys at halftime that River Valley wasn’t finished playing … their early strike proved that. But, we responded … again.
“Ben had his best game this year. Eli was strong. I think we had seven guys produce points for us tonight. We’ll need this kind of play when we head to Academy this weekend.”
Cole Davis and Jack Scheeler split time in the Baron goal, combining for five saves.
Next up, BV has a second-round date with host and second-seeded Columbus Academy Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
