The Olentangy Berlin boys soccer team made history in a couple of ways Tuesday night.
Sophomore Harrison Bialos’ hat trick led the Bears to a 9-0 victory over Eastmoor Academy in the first round of the Division II district tournament.
“We’re getting better every day and we’re coming together as a team,” Berlin coach Joshua Diehl said. “We’re able to see moments where we’re creating an identity. It’s a really great opportunity to be able to come in and build something.”
Bialos’ hat trick is the team’s first ever and it came in the first tournament win in school history.
“It feels amazing,” Bialos said. “New team, new environment, new supporters, new field … new everything. It’s amazing. The people here that support us, our teammates – they’re all family.”
“We’re setting all kinds of records tonight,” Diehl said. “Harry is a good player. He’s creative, he’s kind of crafty and on top of that he’s real coachable. I think he’s starting to come into his own.”
Mason Morris assisted on Bialos’ first goal less than five minutes in and added a goal of his own a couple of minutes later.
“He’s creative also,” Diehl said. “He’s got vision and awareness … he’s a great teammate.”
Connor Kindell had two goals and an assist, Adam Wiseman had a pair of assists and Dominic Antronica had a goal and an assist to lead the Bears (5-8-4).
Kaden Foreman and Mason Zamilski each added tallies and Austin Corley, Ryan Miller and Ian Campbell each had helpers for Berlin, which led 7-0 at the break.
Abdolaye Ba finished with five saves in goal for 21st-seeded Eastmoor (3-7).
Next up, Berlin hosts 22nd-seeded Licking Valley in the second round Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
