The canteen at the AMVETS Post 102/American Legion Post 115 veterans facility located at 485 Park Ave. in Delaware has been upgraded.
According to a press release from AMVETS Post 102, the work on the canteen was funded through grant money from a Home Depot program focused on helping veterans.
Locally, Ronald Haynie, then manager of the Lewis Center Home Depot, reached out to the Raymond B. Austin American Legion Post 115 earlier this year to see what type of facility upgrades would benefit the post’s membership the most, the release states.
After working with the trustees and officers of the post, Haynie was able to map out a plan for upgrades to the canteen. The changes include a new commercial double oven with six burners and a flat top grill, and new commercial carpet in the canteen area.
According to the press release, the remaining unused funds from the grant will be used to purchase paint to complete the renovation efforts.
While the facility is shared between AMVETS 102 and American Legion 115, it also serves as the meeting headquarters for the local DAV, Marine Corps League, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. The facility can also be rented for receptions and parties.
“The post membership gratefully acknowledges the generosity of Home Depot in providing over $10,000 in these upgrades for the benefit of local veterans and their families,” the release states.
