Incident at Hyatts MS under investigation

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation at Olentangy Hyatts Middle School after authorities learned a student put bodily fluids in food consumed by several people at the school.

According to a report taken by the DCSO, the incident took place on Thursday while a home economics class was making crepes and having teachers sample them.

Tracy Whited, head of community and media relations for the DCSO, told The Gazette Monday that a student shot a video of himself putting bodily fluids, that investigators believe to be urine or semen, on the crepe. The video was shared with other students, and it was eventually shown to an adult, who contacted the sheriff’s office.

Whited said several teachers ingested the contaminated food, and the sheriff’s office is still actively looking into the incident.

“We’re still investigating and working with the (Delaware County) Prosecutor’s Office before any charges are brought forward,” Whited stated in an email Monday.

The Olentangy Local School District issued the following statement Monday:

“The safety and security of our students and staff is of utmost importance. District leadership and local law enforcement are conducting a thorough investigation into this incident and anyone found in violation of school policies will be held accountable for their actions. We are also focusing our efforts to support the teachers impacted by this incident.”

No charges have been filed at this time.
