Dave Kaufman, CEO of Encova Insurance, will discuss “Integrated Leadership” when he presents the 2019 Robert L. Milligan Leaders in Business Lecture at his alma mater, Ohio Wesleyan University.

Kaufman, a 1981 Ohio Wesleyan graduate, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 1 in the Benes Rooms of OWU’s Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave., Delaware. His presentation is free and open to the public.

Encova Insurance, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, is ranked among the top 20 mutual insurance companies in the United States. The company provides commercial, auto, home and life insurance, and markets insurance solutions through more than 2,000 independent agencies in 28 states and the District of Columbia.

Encova was created in 2019 following the 2017 affiliation of Motorists Insurance Group and BrickStreet Mutual Insurance Co. Kaufman joined Motorists Insurance in 1986 and served as its CEO prior to becoming CEO of Encova. He also served as Motorists’ appointed actuary, mergers and acquisitions, commercial lines and information technology. He recently announced plans to retire at year’s end.

A mathematics and economics major at Ohio Wesleyan, Kaufman also was a varsity basketball player and graduated cum laude. Today, he serves on several industry boards including the American Association of Insurance Services, Griffith Insurance Education Foundation, Insurance Industry Resource Council, NAMIC Property and Casualty Conference Board, Ohio Insurance Institute, Property Casualty Insurers Association of America and TrustedChoice.com.

In addition to his industry involvement, he is active in the local community as a board member of Columbus Partnership and the Chamber of Commerce. Kaufman also is the founder of Future Possibilities Inc., a nonprofit organization that delivers a life-skills coaching program to inner-city youth in Columbus.

Ohio Wesleyan’s Milligan Leaders in Business Lecture Series was created in 1992 with an endowment gift from Robert L. “Bill” Milligan, OWU Class of 1922, and his wife, Mary Cook Milligan, 2002 honorary alumna, both deceased. The annual lecture is organized by the Woltemade Center for Economics, Business and Entrepreneurship, which works to enhance teaching, learning, research, and community service at the university.
