Radnor Township Community Center reopens

RADNOR — The Radnor Community Center at 4061 state Route 203 reopened on Nov. 1. It had been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Effective immediately, the Radnor Township Community Center is closed, except for authorized personnel,” the village website stated at the time of closing. “By order of the Radnor Township Board of Trustees March 17, 2020.”

The center is available to rent for township residents. The center is also where the Radnor Township Board of Trustees normally meet on the second and fourth Mondays of the month. However, due to the pandemic, the board has more recently opted to meet once a month as needed.

During the Sept. 28 meeting, trustees approved the reopening and “to follow the current guidelines provided by the Delaware General Health District to ensure safety precautions are taken and social distancing is encouraged,” the minutes read.

Also at the meeting, the board approved applying for a grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission on a joint project with neighboring Troy Township on Hills Miller Road in 2021. Another project slated for next year are improvements to Byers Road.

Recent work completed in the township include the repairing of culverts on River and Curren roads, and removing trees that blew down in the cemetery.

The township will begin receiving monies from a road levy in 2021, and the trustees are planning which roads to work on first. In the meantime, the maintenance department has edged roads and filled potholes.

Doug Riedel from the Delaware County Engineer’s Office advised the board on installing “No Engine Breaking” signs on South Section Line Road at state Route 37, state Route 203 and Warrensburg Road “provided a sign isn’t installed further south by a bordering township,” the minutes read. The trustees approved the resolution, as well as the vacation of an alleyway on Radnor Road.

On Sept. 14, trustees approved the purchase of dehumidifiers/air purifiers for the Radnor Historical Museum. Joe Preston from the Radnor Heritage Society said there is a significant amount of moisture in the museum and it is damaging artifacts in the basement.

In August, trustees were told of a property on Curtis Road that the township could acquire. The minutes note the property “keeps flooding and the landowners wish for FEMA to purchase the land and deed it to Radnor Township, who will then keep the space as an open area. The project could cost up to $10,000 but may be offset with grants. The trustees opted to go forward with the idea in order to see how it plays out.”

Lastly, the township is re-establishing its Parks Committee.
