The Central Ohio Symphony’s 44th season is ready to bring both the expected and the unexpected to its audiences and the greater central Ohio community. Music Director Jaime Morales-Matos, now beginning his 20th year with the orchestra, will be conducting the five-concert series.

“Season 44 will intrigue and delight our audiences,” said Executive Director Warren W. Hyer. “We have guest artists from around the country and the world and several world premieres.”

The Symphony season will have five concerts again this year with the opening concert at the beginning of October. Three of the five concerts will take place in 2022, and three of the concerts will be on Sunday afternoons.

Major symphonies by Tchaikovsky, Brahms, and Beethoven will highlight the season. Year two of the Symphony’s “Play It Again” series gives underrepresented composers a second or third performance of their compositions and new music for the audience to experience.

Hyer said, “The unexpected will include a Latin jazz flute concerto by Mariano Morales. The holiday concert will bring a world premiere of music by Westerville composer Ken McCaw for Irish Uillean pipes and the return of soprano Angel Tyler. In March, world-renowned trombonist Peter Steiner to debut a work based on music from UFO movies. Soprano Angel Tyler will return in May singing poems by Langston Hughes; that concert will also include a concerto that will bring 14 timpani to the stage!”

The Symphony is again planning to live stream and record concerts for later viewing online.

The 44th season programming is:
