Pacer Pantry in need of donations

The Pacer Pantry is running low on supplies and is in need of donations, its organizers reported last week.

The pantry is based in Willis Education Center and is a partnership between Delaware City Schools and The United Way of Delaware County. The pantry supplies food, hygiene products, and other essential items to local families in need without any income guidelines.

At the end of August, the pantry posted a message on Facebook asking for donations.

“Pacer Pantry, like many of our partner pantries in the Delaware County Hunger Alliance, has put out community requests for assistance in restocking our shelves,” said Kelsey Fox, the director of community navigation for the United Way of Delaware County. “A key difference in this community resource is the emergency nature of our intended audience. Delaware County is fortunate to have a wide network of full shop pantries. Pacer Pantry fills a short-term need for families in immediate crisis. Supplies available at the moment are significantly lower than usual.”

Fox said the pantry served 47 families in the month of August and said “as community need rises, the community’s ability to contribute to donations also declines.” Fox said donations make up near the entirety of items available in the pantry.

“The Pacer Pantry’s shelves are becoming bare. Donations are much needed,” Fox said.

She added the items the pantry is in need of include toilet paper/paper towels, cleaning supplies such as laundry detergent and soap, hygiene products such as baby wash or deodorant, snack items, peanut butter and jelly, canned tuna and chicken, pasta, rice, ramen and cereal.

Donations are accepted at the Family Resource Center within Willis or by calling 740-833-1619 to set up a drop-off time.

“Your donations and support are greatly appreciated!” Fox said. “Although the name is ‘Pacer’ Pantry, we serve all residents of Delaware County, not just the DCS families.”
