On Monday, the Delaware County Engineer’s Office (DCEO) will be closing Pittman Road between U.S. Highway 42 North and Leonardsburg Road in Brown Township until April 13 for a culvert replacement. The closure is between U.S. 42 to the south and 4435 Pittman Road to the north.

The DCEO will be busy with other roadwork in the “3 Bs and K” portion of the county (Berlin, Berkshire, Brown and Kingston townships) based on its 2023 Paving and its 2023-24 Road Projects guides. Here’s a look at what’s ahead.

Berkshire Township

• Chip and fog sealing 1.24 miles of Blayney Road.

• U.S. Route 36/state Route 37 and Galena Road (June to October 2023): A $3 million joint project with the Ohio Department of Transportation involving the “construction of left and right turn lanes on each intersection approach, along with a new traffic signal,” the DCEO said in the road projects guide. “Traffic will be maintained on U.S. 36/S.R. 37. Short-term closures on Galena Road.”

Berlin Township

• North Road, phase 2 (fall/winter 2023 to summer 2024): This $4.5 million project entails the “construction of one mile of new three-lane road extending north from Shanahan Road to the already completed section at Shale Meadows Elementary School,” the DCEO said. “Minimal impact to traffic on Shanahan Road.”

• Pavement repair and asphalt treatment to 7.1 miles of roads, including: Clover Plains Drive; Heverlo, North, Sherman and Sweeney roads; Meadow Knoll Road and Whispering Creek Lane; and the Glenmead, The Pines and Winding Creek Estates subdivisions.

• Cheshire Road (spring/summer 2024): A $2.5 million project will widen Cheshire to three lanes between the roundabouts at Old State (east) and Piatt (west) roads. One-way traffic will be maintained for three months.

Brown Township

• Asphalt treatment and paving 1.89 miles of roads, including: Giehl, Harris, Hogback, Howard and Pugh roads; Oxford Woods Drive; and Main, Pearl and White streets.

• Byxbe Parkway, phase 1B (September 2023 to June 2024): This $4.5 million project will build “a new four-lane roadway from U.S. 36 at Glenn Road extending north to Bowtown Road,” the DCEO said. “Lane restrictions on U.S. 36 for intersection work.” This is also in Delaware Township.

Kingston Township

• Chip sealing Basham Lane, and asphalt paving Twigg Hupp Road (2.14 miles in all).

Porter Township

• Chip sealing 4.74 miles of roads, including Lane, Porter Central and Trimmer roads; as well as Olive Green (Center, Columbia, McKay, Pearl and Washington streets).

There are some small bridge replacement projects that will take place from summer 2024 to fall 2025: Fulton Creek (Thompson Township), Bokes Creek (Scioto Township) and Alum Creek (Oxford Township). Each will entail 4–6-month closures.
