SUNBURY — The Big Walnut Local Schools Board of Education had a routine 85-minute meeting Monday night led by its new president, Steve Fujii.

Students from eight local high schools participated in the 2024 Ohio Mock Trial Competition Friday and questioned witnesses, presented evidenced, and objected to examination from their opponents.

Schultz Elementary School held its annual spelling bee competition Thursday afternoon, and after spelling 21 words correctly, fifth grader Himanshu Singh was named the champion.

Internationally recognized scholar, author, and public advocate Davarian L. Baldwin will discuss “Beyond Diversity and Inclusion: Rethinking the Community Engagement Mission of Higher Education” when he presents Ohio Wesleyan University’s 2023-2024 Butler A. Jones Lecture on Race and Society.

Phillip Smith has been named director of the Delaware Entrepreneurial Center at Ohio Wesleyan University. He joined the university staff on Jan. 16 and continues to develop the facility as a regional center of innovation.

The Olentangy Local School District Board of Education welcomed its newest members during Thursday’s organizational meeting. Oaths of office were administered to Kevin O’Brien, Elizabeth Wallick, and Lizett Schreiber after their respective elections in November to fill three open seats on the board.
