Happy Valentine’s Day, dear readers! This year, Feb. 14 also shares holidays with Ash Wednesday and National Ferris Wheel Day (in honor of George Washington Gale Ferris, Jr. – the man who invented the Ferris Wheel).

We know how important farming is in our state: one-in-seven Ohioans depend on agriculture for their jobs.

After the past eight years of writing, I am now aware that I may be repeating myself when I write about anything in my life. I have written a lot about my days in the Delaware City Schools system, as well as about my family. I have also written a lot about my jobs. But today, I am absolutely sure that I have not written anything about having gotten married 65 years ago.

Last week, we left 70-year-old Galileo on June 22, 1633, as he knelt before the Catholic Church’s Holy Inquisition. He abjectly confessed his “error” in supporting Copernicanism, the belief that the sun, not Earth, is at the center of the solar system.

This time of year Ohioans know all too well how important reliable electricity is.

Opinion polls can be exhausting. As we enter a presidential election year, you are certainly going to be hearing enough about opinions and polling to last you a lifetime. However, I hope I can intrigue you with a poll that hits a bit closer to home, regarding your local library.

I’m not one to toot my own horn, but I am going to now because I am proud of my team! Earlier this year I was honored to receive an award from State Auditor Keith Faber. This award is titled the Public Integrity Award and recognized my efforts during an investigation that has led to the indictments in a high-profile case that is still pending. I was proud to accept the award on behalf of my team at the office who work tirelessly every day to serve you, our community, with integrity and who work always to seek the truth and to do the right thing.
