Each year members of the Big Walnut Local School District honor their own at a ceremony and dinner hosted by Roush Honda at Big Walnut High School immediately preceding the May school board meeting.
Recognized during the ceremony are that school year’s recipients of the Roush Honda Golden Eagle Mentor Award.
Award recipients are selected through a nomination process that begins in March when school administrators, staff members and area residents nominate individuals they believe have made a positive impact in the life of Big Walnut students.
Criteria include involvement, support and communication for the school building and community; impacting the lives of children in a positive manner; and promoting the welfare of children at home, school or in the community.
A panel of volunteers and staff then selects final honorees.
This year’s deadline for nominations is Friday, April 15.
Potential nominees include community members, parents, volunteers and school district staff members; but individuals may not be nominated if they have received an Eagle Mentor Award in the past five years.
