Three area girls basketball teams put the finishing touches on league titles while another moved a win away from doing the same with solid showings Friday night.

The Delaware Hayes boys basketball team tightened its grip on a potential OCC-Capital Division title, maintaining its spot alone atop the league standings with a convincing 73-55 win over visiting Westerville South Friday night.

Freshman post Macy Miller sank a lay-in with :16 to play to cap a game-ending 5-0 run and give the Ohio Wesleyan women’s basketball team a thrilling 63-61 North Coast Athletic Conference win over Denison on Wednesday in Granville.

Ohio Wesleyan University freshman Elsa Hoam and freshman Zoe Ward received Division III All-Academic Cross Country honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, it was announced by the USTFCCCA.

The Olentangy Liberty boys basketball team evened things up thanks to a pair of Parker Van Engelenhoven free throws with 17.4 seconds left, but host Olentangy answered with a hoop from Ceasar Abouchahine with 4.5 to go to put the finishing touches on a thrilling 57-55 non-league win Saturday night in Lewis Center.

Three different Braves nabbed runner-up honors in their respective weight classes while three others earned top-four finishes to lead the Olentangy boys wresting team to a third-place showing at Saturday’s Rieman Invitational in Delaware.

Claire Mikola picked up the scoring slack with a game-best 18 points and Maria Stack muscled in what proved to be the game-winning hoop with 2.8 seconds left as the shorthanded Olentangy Liberty girls basketball team stayed perfect in league play with a hard-fought 37-36 win over Upper Arlington Friday night in Powell.

The Ohio Wesleyan women’s basketball team got back to its winning ways, using a dominant middle two quarters to take care of visiting Wooster 81-43 in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday night at Branch Rickey Arena.
